2009
Founded by Real-Time Data Pioneer
Volt was conceived by Dr. Michael Stonebraker, an academic and industry legend in database systems whose work on in-memory and real-time data began decades prior and set the foundation for what became VoltDB (later Volt Active Data).
2010
First Public Release of VoltDB
VoltDB launched as an in-memory relational database focused on high-velocity transactional processing with strong consistency, tackling real-time challenges that traditional databases struggled with.
2015
Founder Wins ACM Turing Award
Founder, Dr. Stonebraker, received the ACM Turing Award, the highest honor in computer science, validated decades of foundational database research, and put Volt’s underlying technology on the global map.
2019
$10M Series C Funding
Volt closed a $10M Series C funding round, a pivotal moment in the company’s growth, providing the capital to accelerate platform development and deepen its presence in enterprise deployments.
2022
Rebrand to Volt Active Data
VoltDB officially became Volt Active Data – a deliberate evolution that reflected the company’s growth from an in-memory database into a full real-time decisioning platform, built to move from ingest to action in under 10 milliseconds.

2023

Volt(SP) Launch

What is Volt Active Data?
Volt isn’t an application, a database, or an analytics tool. It’s a real-time decisioning layer that combines in-memory data processing, streaming ingest, business logic, and AI integration into a single platform. It sits between anything flowing into your system that requires a decision, and the actions your systems take as a result.
For every transaction that clears, every usage limit that kicks in, and every fraud signal that fires, something had to make that decision. In most systems, that decision happens too late.
